HUM[erus] is an open source Computer aided robot. The project is currently being pursued by Charalampos Triantos and Eirini Vouliouri, coordinated by Professor Dimitris Papalexopoulos, in the context of the Architectural Technology Research Unit (ATRU) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the Fab Lab Athens. The main concept is the creation of a small scale robotic arm, elaborated within the framework of open hardware, meaning that the project’s design information will be available to and usable by the public in a way that allows anyone to make, modify, distribute and use it. HUM[erus] envisions to become a hardware tool for designers, capable of performing variant tasks and operations (e.g. 3D printing and CNC cutting), while strictly adhering to three primal attributes, outlined as open in terms of design principles, ultra low–cost and portable.
